Thanks a great deal but just a word of caution to people who do content writing: avoid writing on sites that are not do-follow. These sites will bring down your SEO rating. Do-follow sites will give you higher conversion rates. Also, please take note that Google Knol is no longer working. Some of these sites may have closed up already.

Wow this is a pretty awesome list. Just wanted to add that some of these sites are no longer working as of today. At least I know Associated Content, which was bought by Yahoo! and renamed to Yahoo! Voices, was shut down earlier this year. It was the first site I used to submit articles too and make money from them.

All of these articles are great. Be advised however that EHOW is now owned by Demand Media -- whom you have to be approved to write for and they are now only taking professional writers with degrees and specializations. I worked for them a couple of years back and they pretty much did a hostile takeover where they fired everyone except the people with renown credentials.

I was very upset when I found out Associated Content was shutting down. They had a great program and their editors were great. It was not a huge ordeal to get content published. Once they switched to Yahoo ownership it was nearly impossible to get anything published by their standards, however former writers were still receiving residuals from page views from their AC work... I tried to log on one day to find THAT TOO had been shut down. I had articles on there that are now just vanished because I no longer had backup copies of them... so needless to say I was devastated by both the loss of income and work.

Does anyone still do article marketing by submitting to sites like this? Once most, if not all, of the sites were slapped by Google, I thought the benefits had vanished. Now, I see people talking about two different things here. Some are talking of getting paid by sites like Associated Content while others are talking about article marketing for SEO and traffic. There are still a few that pay for content but none that I know of are upfront payments.

A lot of these sites are indeed shutting down, perhaps due to dying traffic or insufficient content submission rate. It's better to go for high PR sites with higher traffic as these can ensure that your submitted articles and backlinks to your site will stay longer in cyberspace.

There are plenty of article directories to put your content in, however some of these listed in the first entry here have either chaged forthe worst or have completely closed. Squidoo has closed and most of their people have gone to Hubpages, I also heard that Hubpages has gone down hill a lot as well. Do not quote me on this though, I do not know all of the facts. Triond was one of the first ones I had gotten started on, but soon realized its pretty hard to get popular on there, you can write what you want pretty much but it isn't worth the time or effort.

Writing on eHow also took a turn, that was a great site when I first found it, then they turned it into something where it was super hard to get anything accepted. I really can't blame most of these websites for going down the drain in a general content writers eyes, but to me they simply aren't worth anything. There is a new content place that is apparently really good and it is called Bubblews, I have not tried this one yet, so not putting any money on how well it woul be for submitting content to.
