I think Facebook will be around for many more years to come in some capacity, but the Facebook as we know it currently will probably die off. The reason being, is back in like 2008, everyone was new to the platform, and people were recklessly connecting with anyone and everyone to increase their friend counts, reconnect with old friends and coworkers, and of course share all kinds of stuff about themselves to everyone.

But now that 7 or so years have passed, and perhaps many of us have started shaving off our friends lists rather than adding people to them, because we are getting fed up with other people's rants, political stump speeches, endless pictures of their kids, selfies, cats, offensive content, etc... it's going to be a hard sell to get everyone to connect like that again on some other social network.

I know personally, on the rare occasion I do add someone as a Facebook friend, I just throw them on my Restricted list. I don't even want to be bothered accidentally making a fool out of myself to someone I haven't seen or talked to in 20 years, but posting some silly drunken rant or someone sharing some embarrassing photo of me on my wall. I wan't my privacy back. It's too antagonizing having your mistakes and setbacks broadcast to everyone from your past like that. In years prior to Facebook, if something bad happened in your life, like getting fired from a job, it only got as far as the people near to you at that time gossiping, now notifications get sent out to all your connections when you try to update your employment, for example, drawing more attention to it.

Uhh... what do you mean? Tons of people still use Facebook. It's as active as ever as far as I can see. The "facebook" facebook page get's like 10 likes per second. I don't think Facebook will be dying out anytime soon.
