You can pretty much buy a domain anywhere and as long as its not being used its considered parked.

As far as companies, GoDaddy is pretty popular, sedo.com and afternic are both domain auction services, Website Magick will register and park your domain, register.com. network solutions etc

if you search for domain parking companies then there will be many. but few are in the news today like godaddy.com. you can avail the service with the help of these type of companies.

This brings up a question for me~ why is there such a large difference in registration fees?
Also, if you already have a domain registered through the hosting service you use, can you transfer the domain to a different registration service?
