How To Quickly Grow Your Number Of Twitter Followers?

I've tried following a lot (a couple of thousand) of people following accounts that are similar to mine and I did get a bit of a response, netting me about 500 followers, but then I got stuck. If I unfollow them in order to follow others I'm likely to get my account suspended. What strategies have you applied to quickly get more followers?

 

Why would you get your account suspended if you unfollow them? I don't understand the reason behind this.

 

What you need to do to grow you twitter followers is to tweet a lot, but don't just do it to share your own content. You need to be interactive in discussions related to your niche and use hashtags. Retweet messages from people you follow. All of this will get you noticed and people are more willing to follow an active tweeter.

Unfollowing in bulk is not a good idea. If you use software to do this it will come to the attention of Twitter, which does not approve of users doing mass unfollows.

The best way to get twitter followers in my experience is to follow lots of people and many will follow you back. Over time just keep following lots of people and your followers will add up. You can also unfollow the one's that didn't follow you back. Once your account has enough followers you can slowly begin to stop this and focus more on actual tweeting instead of trying to get followers. If you already have a large enough following then then as you get retweets/favorites you will gain followers naturally without all the hassle.

 

I gained about 5k followers by just following users who provided the general hashtags of wanting new followers. I like Twitter's mobile platform, because the buttons on the side make it easy to just scroll down and hit follow on every user you find. It didn't generate as much referrals as old sites like Xanga did for me, but it did get the job done all in all.

You can purchase Twitter sites that are already equipped with followers, but the problem with that, is you don't always know if they're genuine users. Even if you want an illusion of reputation for your business, at least do it the decent way. I see some people unfollow others - working accounts mind you and not pseudo accounts - as soon as they receive a follow back. That's quite mercenary. If I were a consumer or someone with an interest in your company and you'd something so underhanded as to unfollow others, I would immediately stop patronizing your products. It's good to do business online. But a lot of people doing business nowadays are ruthless and without a shred of decency. Maybe. Depends on how you look at it I guess. I personally wouldn't have a problem with someone who used follow back techniques to get followers. I see it as exchanging followers. I'll follow you if you follow me back sort of thing. That's just me though. Maybe that seems unethical to some.

 

I think that's a common sense agreement where you follow someone and expect to be followed back. Sadly, I see many not doing this and it makes me a bit angry.
