Remember when we did't have the social media websites? We were just fine without them. Now it seems we cannot go a few minutes without checking what is going on with everybody else on social media. Why?

I don't know about other people but I'm not that easily swayed by social media. I hardly use social media for personal self-promotion. There's more glory in using SNS for expanding one's business ventures. I do understand why people get hooked (more often than not to unreasonable or fanatic heights). The reason why they get hooked: social affirmation. Some people could express better through social media while some don't.

If you want to spend time posting selfies and spreading gossip through social media, that is fine, but not everyone uses it in that way.

I never post personal information in social networks, I only use them for business and to support campaigns. Most of the people I follow have some connection with my line of work. Only a few of them are asociated with my personal interests.

I usually use FB to promote my articles with my friends. Most of the time, I post random stuff on my feed and connect with friends. I work far from my hometown, and social media is the best way for me to connect. I put on FB on the background, while I click around the internet and other websites. I rarely use twitter too.

Not everyone is addicted to social media. Some people avoid it and others use it for commercial purposes and don't even have personal accounts. It's a cross between marketing and network marketing, you can use existing networks, create new ones or use the networks within your networks.

People use it to show off these days and I am glad there is a delete button, however people know this and take screenshots before accounts are deleted. I have various accounts, but I don't use them daily. I used to with Facebook to message as it was cheaper and quicker, but these days I prefer to contact people when I want to.

Apparently it's connected to FOMO - the fear of missing out! It's a form of social anxiety where social media users are afraid of missing the opportunity for social interaction!

I don't get on my facebook account very often since I'm so busy with things of a more useful nature but I was quite addicted at one time. That's with both facebook and twitter. I think the reason it's so addicting is because of all the activity. New and cool posts are constantly popping up and people enjoy reading them. They like receiving notifications and messages from people.

Of course, everyone has their own reasons and justifications on why they spend "x" amount of time on a social media site per day. In my opinion, to adequately answer your question, you have to first identify who you are referencing when you say "we". Are we talking about teenagers who just feel the need to announce every step they make and watch as others do the same, or are we speaking of people in general who just like to be involved in everything that's happening from a distance? Whatever the case may be, I don't think it I would personally call it an addiction. I would say, more or less, a time management or lack thereof and/or prioritizing issue.

Personally, I have accounts on a few sites, myself. However, I don't make it a point to check my sites every five minutes to see who has updated, posted pictures, etc. I don't use social media apps on my phone either. That's just me, though.

Will maybe because of the comfort and convenience social media offers in terms of communication. There are people in this world that are a little bit shy in expressing thier feelings and emotions personally and that makes social media sites as great avenue for them to share what they have in mind.

Because with social media we can do chats or do contacts with other people. We can see updates of other people. These all things are so interesting. That is why we are addicted to social media.

Because it's easier to stay in touch with a greater number of people this way because of the working hours and our families. Also, social media are the places where we today gather different information, news and recommendations where to go, what music to listen to, where to go to eat, what's good and what's not, all of the things that were in magazines in the nineties and before that.
