PayPal alternative?

Hi guys,

Nice to see a new forum added. :) Now to my question.

I have been using Paypal.com for many years now, but I feel they are getting worse every day. Are there any good alternatives to Paypal.com?

All our scripts are written for Paypal, but since they have become so lousy to work with, we are prepared to make the necessary changes. (argh...much work..)

Hey Mike!

I have searched for some time now for an alternative to PayPal as well as an alternative to Google Checkout.
Unfortunately, as difficult as they can be for a seller, they are the two best known and most trusted.
As a seller, there are so many other alternatives that it is confusing. I don't want to end up with 10 different processing functions!
Maybe some other sellers will share which ones they use and find worth wild.

WorldPay
Amazon credit card processor

The real trick is to find one that has a good credit card fraud check
one fraudulent order can destroy your entire month income.

if you have high-end products in your e-commerce store

There are many ecommerce (shopping cart) systems, some are open source and thus free. Others charge monthly fees or a one time payment for a software license. It very much depends on your business, how many items you are selling, what features you need and sometimes what country you are in (PayPal does not deal with certain countries due to volumes of fraudulent orders).

You also have to deal with SSL certs, Gateway fees etc which is why many would use PayPal

What is the website in question Mike?

Paypal is best money online money transfer site we can trust

I think it depends largely on your business,

PayPal in fine if you have only a few items or if you can do manual billing. We use PayPal (almost) exclusively at this time and it's fine. There's no need for an SSL cert and for the products we sell it works well.

If you have 100's or even 1000's of products you may need something a little more industrial.

If your inventory is in QuickBooks I would recommend PDG.

If you want a skin that matches the rest of your site You need to find a eCommerce software program that allows custom skins.

If you are a hosting company with 1000's of customers and recurring billing WHMSC is designed to integrate with cPanel and is the best option for billing purposes.

The point is that one size does not fit all.

Thanks for the mention Claude5670.

I should point out that your business does need to be based in the UK to get a Nochex account, but if you are looking for a merchant account + payment gateway in one package, without a long contract, and no recurring fees then we might have the solution.

Of course, as Website Magick points out above it really does depend on your circumstances as to the best solution for your business.

Good luck whatever you do decide upon.

Try ProPay.com

As Claude5670 has listed, PayPal has many competitors but I don't believe any of them offer a competitive advantage. PayPal has the majority of customers, offers the most services and gives your customers what they want from a P to P service. I would advise you to just grit your teeth (We all do it) and keep PayPal until such time something that's truly superior comes along.

I've used both paypal and moneybookers and with paypal I hated how they always held my money and moneybookers I never felt confortable using and there were so many little problems all the time with transfers, refunds, you name it and it was a problem.
I eventually bit the bullet and signed up for a merchant account with merchantinc.com and a merchant account is really the way to go if you are trying to run a business, big or small. Yes there is the monthly fee of $8 but well worth it not having to deal with the hassle of paypal and moneybookers. I use it mostly for sales in ebay and my website and money is deposited directly in to mu checking account (live and learn paypal)
