I think SEO gives website popularity and visibility of website in search engine, but SMO gives traffic of your websites.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization), it's optimizing the websites visibility on search engine result page. that process helps you to increase the quality & quantity of traffic to your websites through likes google. But SMO (Social Media Optimization) is one of the part of SEO. This is also helps to improve your website traffic of brining more people to visit your website via social media.
