What is a search engine and how it works

A search engine is a web-based tool that enables users to locate information on the World Wide Web. Popular examples of search engines are Google, Yahoo, and Bing etc. Search engines utilize automated software applications (referred to as robots, bots, or spiders) that travel along the Web, following links from page to page, site to site. The information gathered by the spiders is used to create a searchable index of the Web.

How its work:-
Search engine reads text only , when ever it finds a new link of any new webpage then follow it and index all the content on new webpage. And if it found another new links on this new web page then go to these links and index all the data in its database. When ever any user want to search any thing then it the search engine software fetch the related information from its database and provides the relative results to the search term.

 

For search engine activity it is highly recommended that the person had to enter the keywords in the search box which as a result provides the person with a list of all the documents which are relevant to the keyword that had been searched.

 

it gives you the results when you type a set words in the search engine.

There are different way Search Engine and done work according their nature which is set by the owner of that Engine. I think Google is better search engine, among all search engine. Because it provides a lots of relevant information for us.

 

Basically, a search engine is a software program that searches for sites based on the words that you designate as search terms. Search engines look through their own databases of information in order to find what it is that you are looking for.

How it's work -

• They search the Internet -- or select pieces of the Internet -- based on important words.
• They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them.
• They allow users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.

 

A search engine such as Google or yahoo or Bing. you type in what you're looking for and you'll get results related to whatever you're interested in.
They work by creating a boot (called a crawler) that will go around on the web basically clicking every possible link and then storing all that data in a database (this is called indexing). When you search for something the search engine goes in the database and retrieves specific sites relating to that query.
