No You cannot buy a domain that is owned by someone else unless they wish to sell it to you.

You may book a similar domain "if" you are trying to use their brand to draw traffic to your site. The domain needs to be pertinent to your product or service.

No You can't, Ask the owner of the website domain if he interested to re-sell.

You can't use a domain name that is already registered but per the title of this forum you could register something similar. If you want the main domain name but it's already registered you could always check if other extensions might be available for registration. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this though if you are trying to compete with the main website owner for the same product or service as you would not have the top domain and might come across trademark issues down the road. I would recommend differentiating your business name and find a top level domain name that matches that.

There are may different domain extensions available and there are new ones being created all of the time. If someone has already registered the name check to see if it's available in another extension.

No you can't but you can add an extra word to create an altogether different domain name. For instance, if you want the communityforums.com domain name but it's already taken by another individual or company, then maybe you can add "great" before communityforums.com so that it will look like this instead: greatcommunityforums.com. If that domain is still unavailable, then you had better think of something else.

You can never take a domain name which has been already taken. But you can try with different domain extension.

No, you can use a domain name that's already in use. You can either reach out to the owner and offer to buy the domain. You can also add other words to the domain name, such as "the", "online." These work well is the domain isn't being developed.

I have this problem right now. My chosen domain is in use. The website hasn't been updated in 3 years. The company never got off the ground. The owner wanted an outrageous price for it so I just added "the" to the domain.
I will still contact the owner every six months to see if she wants to sell the domain at a reasonable price.

You can buy a similar domain name with a different extension like if they are still available for you.

Anyone can buy a domain name. To do so, you visit a domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap, key in the domain you want to buy, and pay a fee. You can't buy just any domain, of course—only one that isn't already registered by another person or business and that bears a valid domain suffix.
