I was talking with a friend the other day about HTML5 and he said that he was really sick of the hype. I was somewhat confused, as I haven’t thought of HTML5 as hype at all. He then compared all the discussions and hysteria surrounding whether or not HTML5 was the best thing since sliced bread to the same noise that was going on back in the early 2000s about “Web 2.0.”
After thinking about it, I realized he had a point, there is a lot of the same types of statements about HTML5 that were coming out about Web 2.0. That it is going to (or is already) change the entire web. That it’s the biggest change ever. And of course, the implication that anyone not using HTML5 is going to be washed away by the sea of awesomeness that is coming to flood the interwebs as HTML5.
If you haven’t gathered, the above paragraph is tongue in cheek. I do believe that there has been a lot of media frenzy, and yes, hype, surrounding HTML5. I do think it’s a good idea to get started learning it now rather than waiting for some pie-in-the-sky period when all the browsers support it (that will never happen, there will always be something new that not all browsers support). But I don’t think HTML5 is the be-all, end-all solution to every web problem extant. I think it will cause problems as well as solve them, and I think that HTML5 is just another tool professional web designers should have in their belt.
What do you think? Is HTML5 hype? Post your answer in the comments.

HTML 5 is become more powerful scripting language for developing the website templates. This version comes with such great features that you will not get from using flash. So many of the developers are preferring this scripting language.

HTML5 will be the new standard for HTML.
The previous version of HTML, HTML 4.01, came in 1999. The web has changed a lot since then.
HTML5 is still a work in progress. However, the major browsers support many of the new HTML5 elements and APIs.
