Similarly to the other social networks, you follow people and have followers. Also, other users can repin your pins, thus spreading the word.

Pinterest is great and it could give you an advantage that other sites might not be able to give you provided your niche is one that works well with the taste of the community that uses the site. Great post. I'm always considering Pinterest when I get into a different niche, and I've read a few helpful posts on a good way to start. A lot of times, someone will start something like this, and use a half-ass approach and decide later that it's not worth the effort. Hopefully, when done right, it can bring in a steady amount of traffic.

 

The way I have found that helps to get more traffic is by setting up and RSS feed to post to my other social networks. That way people who may not follow me will see my pins and come to my page.
