I think Facebook is still the more effective tool since I'm sure a lot more people are using it than Twitter. Also, it has much more features than Twitter. Not that Twitter should be considered worse or less worthy of attention, because it still is a very useful took, but I think it is a bit more specific than Facebook as I find that a bit more general in the types of products and promotions it can work with.

I really think it depends on what you are using social media for. I use it to promote my business and I only use Facebook. For me, that is the best medium right now to get my business out there. I have a client base that I can communicate with very easily via Facebook and can continue to build on those relationships. Honestly when it comes to Twitter...I don't have any friends that use it at all. But this is just what works best for me.

Facebook completely wins this battle. Not just because it allows posts that hold more than 160 characters, but the overall platform plays a role. Facebook's features dominate the "Re-Tweet" function on Twitter. Facebook allows for more engagement and more interaction, which is the aim for both personal and business purposes.

I got back to this thread and read people pitching their support for Facebook. Although I understand people's sentiments, I do feel bad that they don't think Twitter's capable of pulling up their business image or helping them succeed in promotional endeavors. Anyway, to each his own. But I do think when you're talking about social media, you have to leave no stone unturned. In other words, without Twitter or other social media platforms to back Facebook up, you can't drive that much traffic to your site. The more visible you are, the more your prospects will take you seriously.

It's very hard to pick one over the other, both definitely have their merits. Facebook has a lot of the older audience, and people who hold onto it with loyalty since it started with them in college and all their pictures for the last ten years are posted. For unpaid customer engagement, I definitely think Twitter. You have a lot of opportunity to search keywords and find customers talking about you, your product, or a category in real time. Then instant engagement! Without paying for Facebook ads, it's very hard to find new customers who are definitely interested and wanting to engage with your product. Definitely a matter of opinion and what you're end goal is!

I can't ever seem to juggle both at the same time. I just recently reactivated my Facebook account (don't ask me why) and I've used that ever since. I think twitter is the superior platform just because instead of public figures having pages you can like, everyone has the same standard account. The other day I tweeted my favorite music producer and he messaged me back! It was as easy as putting his user name in the post. I've never connected with anybody except my immediate family and friends on FB.

It also has a lot to do with what you plan to do with your Twitter or Facebook. Businesses tend to be more popular on Facebook. Not saying that twitter isn't good for that too but I think the Facebook page is the equivalent of a takeout menu. The layout makes is easier on the eyes of a potential customer.

I am kind of torn between the two websites. I think Facebook is better for personal connections and sharing things like photo albums, events and keeping in touch. I think Twitter is better for professional connections, networking and quicker news. As for advertising on both, I found the ROI with Facebook highly superior to Twitter who just hasn't figured it out yet. So I think they both have their advantages and are both great to use.

Both Facebook and Twitter are great, as they each have their own purpose. Twitter is for short messages (hence the character limit), and Facebook is for longer posts. Twitter is more like a newsfeed, where you get little pieces of news. Facebook is a sharing hub, where you can connect with people, promote your business or art using Facebook pages and getting likes on them, share funny pictures or videos, etc. IMO they are both completely different, and are not really comparable.

I don't really get Twitter, I've been on Facebook for years now, and I don't get why someone would be on Twitter as well, if they were on Facebook.

Facebook is better than twitter. Some of the online business ads are seen in facebook and facebook friends wants and buy the goods. It is some what tedious to have friends in tweeter. But facebook friends are easily to get and also available for online chat. So, it is worth of business dealings and also give some ideas to the sellers and buyers. But in twiiter we have to brief in 140 words and also it is not more enough descriptive of the business process. This is my own experience.

I used to really like Twitter and perhaps even more than Facebook but over the past year or so I kind of lost interest in it and rarely get on anymore. I don't' get on Facebook that much either but I still prefer it over Facebook any day. I'd much rather delete my Twitter account than my profile on Facebook.

    Dear KenBrace,
Seen your views on facebook and twitter. Twitter users some what different from facebook users. But on the business interest facebook stands first to chat directly with friends on chat. I want to know which has the vast network of friends circles? I could tell facebook. More friends are benefited by the facebook by online trade and advise for doubts. what are thinking about my view?

They are both great sites and whilst Facebook certainly has the highest membership, I'd advise using both. After all, they are free and have a global audience. I can't think of many other ways to reach out to this big an audience for no cost.

With all the Facebook privacy, it can be better to use Twitter to reach an audience. I have friends that only have Twitter accounts and not Facebook. With Twitter you can delete tweets and you can reach a greater audience and retweet throughout the day which is useful with audiences in different time zones without looking too obvious. That you can't do on a Facebook page.

You can post on Facebook 24 hours a day and it offers users the option to delete their posts...According to Forbes, Facebook has around 1.3 bilion active users, whilst Twitter has 271 million. It's interesting to note that Instagram has now surpassed Twitter in popularity, with around 30 million active monthly users. So this is well worth considering too.

Figures are one thing, but where is your core audience? People tend to retweet rather than share on Facebook, even celebrities use Twitter more than Facebook as it reaches an audience faster than Facebook. Deleting a post isn't actually always possible as I tried once and it would only let me edit it, so I erased the whole post and left it blank instead. Facebook says one thing and then changes it.

I think Facebook is the better social networking website. Twitter is fun and you can connect with many people as well as follow celebrities. The more intimate connection is found with Facebook.

Twitter is more geared towards the public and is therefore better suited for businesses, groups, etc. Kind of like YouTube. Facebook is more of a personal thing for friends and family to keep in touch.

I have more friends on Facebook rather than on Twitter. But I am being more active on Twitter now because I like the privacy it gives me. I could express myself there more.

Yes this is definitely true. Things you say on Facebook will be seen by all your friends and family. What you say on Twitter is usually only seen by the general public. This makes it much easier to express your thoughts.
