I don't get Twitter either... it drives a lot of traffic, but it's such a stupid site in my opinion. I rarely visit it. I just use it because everyone else does.

For me, it's a lot easier to find my audience and customers who are using my product without directly linking to our page. I can do a few keyword and location searches and then directly reach out. Facebook used to be a little better with this, but now, you can start conversations and ask questions directly to your consumer without having them like your page. It varies on your comfort level, but that's my preference.

Twitter's a really attractive SNS in its own right. It gives Facebook great competition because although it may look like its famed rival, it has a number of features that Facebook had not even considered until recently. Trends and hashtags started with Twitter as well as the @ sign for tagging. Facebook copied these from Twitter as you well know. Twitter also prevents people from long and winding posts so everyone's encouraged to be direct and simple. This is very attractive to several people especially those in the working class who are always on the go.

I've always said the same thing.I don't understand why someone needs Twitter if they are on Facebook. I could see people wanting to use it for marketing, but I don't get why they'd want to use it for personal use.

I didn't understand the purpose of Twitter when it first came out as well but now I actually do see how useful it can be. It's just way easier to see updates from people this way and also it makes for a great searching tool for information as well as current events.

I just think it is a great way to get a large amount of traffic your way. You can get a lot more followers on twitter than friends on Facebook. People see your writing and if they like they will follow you. It works pretty fast.

I am completely with you, I don't understand twitter much at all. But to be honest I don't really care to. I find Facebook has everything I am searching for. I do have a Twitter account I just never use it .

Twitter is a fast, news headline sort of flow of information. Yes, there is often too much of it, but if you start to break it down, there is a goldmine of information on topics that are relevent 'right now'.

Twitter had the edge over FB because of its searchbility by #hashtags. Now other sites like Facebook have implemented them too. They are probably the greates tool for finding what you want.

To make sense of Twitter, I recommend using its 'lists' function. Separate those you follow into lists by whatever classification you want. You can then view the tweets of those in which list you choose. For example, I have a list for Etsy. When I view that, I see only the tweets of people on that list. It really simplifies the feed, then you can see what it's for.

I know that a lot of people say that Twitter drives them nuts but I'm actually quite the opposite... FaceBook drives me nuts. On the other hand, I find Twitter easier and more manageable. While I do tend to use both of them in my marketing, I do also tend to prefer Twitter more.

Twitter is a microblogging site that can really be useful for your business. If you are connected with the right people who could promote your business, that would even work better because in just 140 characters, they could send the word to their followers. That action right there could go a long way.

I agree. The information you could get and send out via Twitter is much more streamlined whereas Facebook seems to be more of an announcement to just your own circle of friends. On twitter hashtags can be tracked by anyone, even those outside your circle, and I using it to see what people are talking about and seeing different points of view in just a few seconds can prove to be very valuable in the right circumstance. I checked there when there was an earthquake recently and it was very easy for me to track people who were talking about it.

Even when I'm not active on Twitter, I continue to get new followers every week, because Twitter shows my profile to other users with the same interests. When I follow back, I almost always get more followers from that account. When am tweeting, I get new followers who are interested in the subject of my latest tweet. All of this is very valuable in networking and marketing online.

There are many misconceptions about Twitter, it's not all about trolling and sharing funny pictures. People use it to find news stories, celebrity gossip, new jobs, useful tips and a lot more. It's also powerful in the way that important issues, awareness campaigns and fundraising events very quickly get a lot of attention.

Personally, I believe any way that can spread awareness and attract potential customers is can be beneficial to every business. Not to mention, Twitter is placed in the top 4 social media sites for business. As far as utilization goes, there is no right or wrong way. The key is to have a purpose for its use. For example, if you are attempting to generate more traffic, it could be used strictly to drive traffic via links to your business webpage. With Twitter's short character posts, there is a handful of things in which Twitter can be utilized effectively. Just make sure you know the "why" before you just jump into it.

Secondly, why Twitter versus Facebook (or any other site)? I honestly wouldn't compare the sites. Each one can definitely be a vital piece to having a strategic internet presence. However, it all depends on where your audience is. Contrary to belief, there may be some individuals that may have a Twitter and not a Facebook and vice versa. To effectively and efficiently infiltrate a targeted market, one site might be more of a primary choice than an additional or secondary. In my opinion, this is why many businesses have accounts on multiple social media accounts.

It is a trend. Most people use it because it is popular. Since many are communicating through it; why not use it. It is entertaining and that is all most people need to keep using something. I think like all things, it will pass and there will be something better out there.

I use social media to promote my sites so I basically use twitter since it's a free marketing tool. It's a way to communicate with followers and for businesses there's simply no reason to miss out on it.
