I have several blogs and my own website, but want to add a Tumblr presence, but am not sure if to use it as a blog or as a website and add links to it. Currently I use wordpress and blogger, but prefer wordpress. Is Tumblr worth it for the audience and potential traffic or a static page so it will come up on SEO?

    Thanks!

    Theo,

Based upon my own personal experience with Tumblr, I would suggest that you use it as a "side" blog. Tumblr is good for a websites page rank and traffic; providing that you update it regularly and keep the posts relevant.

In order to get the best out of using Tumblr, take a look into creating your own theme. That way, your Tumblr blog is unique :)

I think Tumblr is worth trying out as a blog. However, succeeding on Tumblr can be incredibly difficult; a ton of users there search for daily content, and if your blog isn't up to speed/very consistent with posts... it could be hard to gain more followers. Perhaps you could just take your posts from your other websites and stick them on Tumblr as well! If you're looking towards SEO, you will have to put in a lot of effort into your Tumblr. It's definitely worth a shot. Tumblr is free, after all.

    Best,
    Charlie

That's what I was thinking. I did it partly with blogger to see if there would be a difference, but wordpress still came out better for followers and people commenting. I will try it as an addition for the time being and test it. I could do with a new audience, so it's worth trying as blogger is slow to take off.

    Thanks

I think Tumblr is best used for a blog. From my perspective, Tumblr appears to be an expression of one's personal view and overall outlook on life. I think it coincides very well with a blog rather than a website. However, you can add Tumblr to both platforms just to bring in more visitors. I have seen the Tumblr icon on many websites that are not blogs. To me it's about advertising and bringing in more visitors to all sites you have available.

I think it's best used as a blog since it was the original purpose of it, I assume. Also, the community surrounding it, as far as I know, respond more to the blog aspect of it than the website aspect. Although, I have seen it used as a website and it did look really nice, but I think for the most part it still is just best used as a blog.

Personally, I think you should operate Tumblr as a blog site. Althought there might potential traffic there, I certainly wouldn't make it a focal point of anything. However, you could always utilize the platform by having a purpose for the site. For instance, sending traffic from Tumblr to another site.

I don't know what you mean by using it as a blog or as a website, to me they are the same thing. Do you mean as a money site? I've heard that Tumblr can rank well in Google, not sure if it still does though, because Google is always changing things up, so if it does, it may be beneficial to use it as a website.

Tumblr is definitely best for a casual blog. A website requires space for navigation links and Tumblr would not meet that need. However, its perfect for posting and reposting images and quotes that appeal to you like one could do on a blog.
