Is Facebook too powerfull to be killed off?

I saw this question on Quora first. However I would like to ask the same to E-forum community.

FaceBook like everything else will go the way of AOL, MySpace and others. They will still be a company but they will not forever stay on top.

 

I have to agree with Website Magick on this one, Facebook with fade away like so many of their predecessors.

 

It could be, but what should be noticed is the fact that none of its predecessors managed to rule as long as it did. Just when everybody thought that Facebook's days were over, they came up with something that kept people coming back. Lots of other big player came in like G+, Twitter, Pinterest, but none of them ever got close to what Facebook had already achieved even in its early days. They seemed promising but not strong enough to topple Facebook. It has become Facebook's habit to make its rivals look impotent. Just because its predecessors faded doesn't mean it should too.

Well it was just a point I raised to be debated, I personally believe Facebook has finally started going down. I have developed a website that aims to eventually replace Facebook as general purpose social networking. Please note that I don't really mean to advertise or promote it. Have you heard of Tsu? Just like Facebook but it pays its users. It is new but is known as the Facebook killer. People are still jumping on board but who would want to waist their time on Facebook if you can get paid to post content on Tsu? Most definitely! Facebook is powerful social media tool to reach users and potential clients for businesses. There are a lot of people who solely use Facebook so it would be impossible to reach them any other way. Cutting off Facebook if you are a business owner or salesperson, you are cutting sales.

 

I think because they have acquired so many other companies they are hard to topple as a company at this point. The website itself, however, can possibly still lose steam in the future. Though I think at this point it would take very long to do so and also a new site to take its place would be very necessary.

 

This too shall pass. It will slowly fad just as everything else. Look at Aol or MySpace. I have a teenager and she is already saying. Facebook is for old people. She uses other social media sites so that tells you. It will soon be a thing of the past.

 

Facebook is still very popular with the older generation. So I don't think it will be killed off anytime soon.

 

By the time facebook fades it will most likely be another social site that takes the spotlight. For the moment facebook is priming and is very popular. Having an established database of mid-old generations it sure will be around for a few more years. The key is the youth and their migration. A website that will have success within the young generations will most likely be the next kickstarter.

 

All good things come to an end but who knows when that might be. They're maxing out on users but have improved on advertising. Instagram is already owned by them and Twitter can't get enough people to remain active and can't figure out advertising. I don't think it will be anytime soon.

 

Instagram being bought by facebook was a huge step in growing. And I agree with @MMAMike, twitter can't figure out how to advertise their target customers.

 

The thing is, Facebook has over 2 billion users. Therefore, it can act as a massive global marketing platform. It will never die out whilst it is still profitable. It's been around for over 10 years now and I do think it'll be here a little longer.

 

2 billion users is a lot. No other website can come close to this number (except for e-mail hosts) and act as a marketing tool at the same time.

 

Facebook will slowly decline just as AOL, Blackplanet, Myspace and so on. Yes the companies are still in operation but their popularity ha significantly decreased. That is how things work these days. Things trend and then people are ready to move on to the next big thing. That is always how it goes.
