Hi Madmax,
First off your domain name should be pertinent to the niche of the directory if there is one.

Second if you think of a name or domain name don't post it publicly before you buy it as someone else might buy it out from under you.

Keep the domain as short as possible and free of numbers and characters other then letters. .com or .net are preferable but if your website is country specific you are best to use that countries domain extension.

I've been sitting on a quality domain name for a web directory, it's a .com, two words, six letters, no digits, hyphens, or other garbage. It's a popular English term, very short and catchy, and the price is low. The selection is totally depends upon you. But there should be some specifications which you have to follow while selecting a domain name. Domain name should be minimum length of 6 characters, no underscore, no hyphens, no digits etc.
