There's something I've noticed about Udemy (an online school with courses on almost any topic you can think of), and it's that there are people offering free courses there to build a "list" they can pitch later sending offers for paid courses.

It's the classic list building strategy: offer a freebie so people sign up with you and then send emails offering your products and services.

I think it's brilliant because a free online course is something everyone wants. It's true that it's harder to produce than a 30 pages report but it's also perceived as being more valuable so I think it's a pretty effective to build your lists.

What do you think? Would it be worth the time to offer a free course at Udemy?

It does look like a good opportunity for someone who is marketing a product or a site that would be of interest to anyone who has signed up for their free course.

I don't know enough about Udemy to say whethere it would actually be worth a try. You would need to check the terms and conditions. I think you would also need to promote your own course, so it does not just get lost amongst all the other free courses on that site.

If you are confident that you can write a full course that is somehow related to your products or your own site, then I think you could give it a try. If it's rejected, or if it does not get any attention at Udemy, you could always convert it into a free ebook and promote that.

I have went to Udemy. I am mostly looking out for free courses only instead though. I am not yet determined to get the paid courses, even if I like the way a free course was made. I cannot be a paid convert yet.

You have to make a good reputation first. With the wealth of courses there, you need to get a certain niche first. If you are willing to invest the time to study your niche, then it can be a good venture. Otherwise, you might frustrate yourself.

If you can put together a short course with relatively little effort then why not? I would just be wary of investing too much time into making the courses in case they don't make you any profit.

I have just looked at the courses offered at the Udemy site. I don't know much about the quality of the coursed offered. I think I have heard some people have started with PLR enhanced it to develop the content for the course.

I have not heard about Udemy but I have taken some courses at coursera before. I love learning and love that there is this trend of free courses online now. You might also want to check out Open2Study and Future Learn. Actually, Open2Study currently has a couple of courses on online advertising and writing for the web that I am taking right now.

I already tried enrolling for several web design, SEO and social media marketing courses over at Udemy. Some were worth it and some were not. Choosing courses in there is like a hit-or-miss thing. Lucky you if you get to listen to effective instructors. When you happen to get questionable materials, even though it's better dropping everything off then and there, you have no choice but to see everything through to the end since you paid for it. Anyhow, it's a matter of resourcefulness. I once entered a free copywriting course and surprisingly it wasn't that bad. In fact, I learned more from it than the $299 course that didn't even make a lick of sense.

That's cool. I haven't heard of an online school which offers free courses such as Udemy. I think I will try that one. There's nothing wrong with testing other stuffs I guess, specially when it's just for free. ;)

Some of you mentioned the quality of Udemy's courses. I've taken two courses before and just like @xTinx said it's a hit-or-miss thing. One ouf the courses was paid and the other was free and of the two of them the free one was pretty good and the other was very generic. Now I'm enrolled to another free course and so far I'm liking it.

About using a course as marketing tool now I don't think it's as easy as I first thought. I would need to put a lot of effort in it so it's of good quality. That's important to establish authority so people would trust me if I send them an offer later. Also, there are lots of courses already on the platform so it will be hard to make it the number one choice for the users. I'm not saying it's not doable, it totally is, it just needs a lot of work.

Well just to add to what was already shared here, what's great about Udemy is that for every free or paid course you enrol in, you'll receive a certificate with a corresponding control number. You can also personally request your instructor to provide you another certificate with their real signature.

Such a Great Thought & it will be very helpful for all, Because it will reduce the cost of course as well as save the time which will be waste in travelling. Thanks for sharing with us.
