    Hi,

Good day to all. I'm just new here and badly need help. Does anybody here knows any software or service where I can transcribe my audio files into text? I have tons of it in different formats and I have no time listening to all of it and transcribe it into words. I'm willing to spend a few bucks for it but better if it will be free.

    Thanks,
    Allan

On Mac OSX Lion they have included a speech to text tool called Dictation that you can find in System Preferences. It's still not perfect as you would have to pronounce your words very clearly especially if you're going to be using technical terms but all in all it seems like a fine working tool. The only drawback I see in it is you have to say each punctuation but if you are someone who prefers speaking to typing then I'd say it's worth it.

I use dragon dictate. It is available for both MAC and PC. The good thing about it is that it can learn the way and manner you speak, so if you have a strong accent it can be tailored to work with it.

I don't know any software that can do that, but I know a few websites where you can hire people to transcribe things for you in exchange for a few dime. I'm not really sure if I can post the link here, but you can just google "online transcriptionist" or "freelance transcriptionist," and I'm sure you will find one.

Try hiring some transcribers in Elance or Freelance.

I've used Dragon Naturally Speaking a few times, but to be honest, I find that it's just easier to type everything myself. The problems come when you're editing the article. It can take a long time to correct what DNS thought you said, and sometimes if you're writing a long article, you may have even forgotten what you were trying to say because DNS messed it up so much. From what I hear, you can get better results of you set it up 100% though.

I tried some of the speech to text software. All of them need some tweaks to be corrected. Accuracy percentage are very bad.

If I am remembering the commercial correctly, there was a product called dragon that converted spoken word to text. Hope you find what you are looking for.

You can never trust software like that. Accuracy is doubtful. Why don't you try asking some help from Guru or Freelancer.

If you want to keep on the cheap side of things you could find someone willing to transcribe your audio files at Fiverr. Some other options may be Elace or Freelancer, but I think Fiverr can give you good results.
