    Greetings!

I am really new to e-marketing and SEO and hence looking for ways to advertise my online store. We sell a lot of cheap knitwear (ladies cardigans in particular). However, the market is extremely competitive and we don't get a lot of traffic. Recently started AdWords campaign to at least find the effective keywords that I should utilize. Anyway, I hope that by studying further and with help of the community here I will finally manage to at least attract a good proportion of visitors.

The point of this thread is that I would like to know if I breakdown all our cardigans into sections within the footer and for example put several columns with such headings as Style, Colour, Fastening and etc and under each section will put a bullet-point list with details, will this do any good? For example within Style section there will be long cardigans, waterfall cardigans, embroidered cardigans etc. Within Colour section: black cardigans, navy cardigans, white cardigans and etc. Will this help our store get more noticed by Search Engines or we will get penalised for too much duplicate content and conversely will fall back even further?

    Thanks

I don't think you want all of that on your landing page. Put your best items and the major categories on the landing page. If you make it too "Busy" you may well drive your customers away.

Just my opinion and others may feel differently so anyone else feel free to chime in here :)

Please give us your URL so we can take a look at what you have,

Good luck and much success in 2012

opps now I see it in your avatar lol, site looks nice. List your site everywhere you can, free classifieds such as Craigslist, forums, and do offline advertising. If you need help someone here may have more suggestions.

    Hi Website Magick,

Thanks for your reply and compliments! Much appreciated. Still got plenty to learn since I am not even thoroughly familiar with the term "landing pages" and how to work with them :(

However, footer is meant to be below the main content and isn't really visible until somebody scrolls down. But when he does, he will notice a large section of different cardigans. In my opinion, our main advantage from many other retailers is a big focus on ladies knitwear. That is why, I am thinking to put as much information about various styles we sell. Great example would be lynda.com and the way they designed their footer. I think that somehow this should get us up for a large variety of terms all concentrated on the main keyword - cardigan.

But again, I am only beginner and don't know about Google's penalties and whether such practice will be considered as black hat seo.

    Need further advice :)

Give it a shot :) If it doesn't help you can always change it. Keeping your site constantly updated will not only help keep visitors returning but also help your PR (page rank).

    I certainly would,

In the last couple of days I've used google tools to adjust my keywords. They will give you the most used search terms. You might also try that.

And create a signature with you URL in it (just a little hint) :)
